Base Period
A specific 52 week period of time, prior to the filing date of an unemployment claim, in which claimant must have worked and earned a minimum amount to qualify for benefits.

Benefit Amount
This is what claimant will receive, according to the wages earned within the base period.

Burden of Proof
The responsibility of either the employer or the claimant to prove their position with documented evidence or witness testimony.

Determination

Discharge
Employer initiated separation from work.

Disqualification
Claimant is denied benefits.

Documentation
Written, factual information, as it occurs, that can be used to support an employers position.

Entitled
When it is determined that the claimant's reason for separation is through no fault of their own, and are allowed benefits.

  • Lack of Work is when there is no work available

  • Discharge is when the employer initiates leaving
